The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in collaboration with Association for Environmental Impact Assessment of Nigeria (AEIAN) held the conference themed “Impact Assessment as an Incubator for the Knowledge Economy” on the 3rd of May 2018, in NDA Ribadu Campus, Kaduna State.

 

The event was well attended by Commandant Major General A. Oyebade; Deputy Commandant Air Commodore A.B Inuwa; The Academy Provost, Prof A.S. Nwankwo, President AEIAN President, Mallam Ahmed Sanda; Former Vice Chancellor University of Port harcourt, Prof J.A. Ajienka (Keynote Speaker); members of the Environmental Assessment department of the Federal Ministry of Environment; members of AEIAN; staff and students of the NDA and other higher institutions in Kaduna town.

Highlights of the event are well-received lecture by the keynote speaker; the discussants’ take on the subject of the day as well as remarks by the NDA Commandant, Academic Provost and President of AEIAN.

Also, awards were presented to Prof Ajienka and Mallam Ahmed Sanda by the NDA Commandant, while AEIAN presented an award to the NDA as an institution for its’ contributions to strengthening impact assessment in Nigeria. Similarly, the Deputy Commandant of the military University presented and to the Environmental Assessment Department of the FMEnv. On behalf of AEIAN for their leadership towards strengthening Impact Assessment in Nigeria.

IMPORTANT TAKES

Major resolutions made as a result of the conference are as follows;

  • The NDA asked that the conference be institutionalised and held annually.
  • It was agreed that a working group be established to collaborate on research. A meeting to define and establish the framework for collaboration is scheduled to be held in 2 weeks.
  • Special recognition was given to Coca-Cola for supporting the event with drinks and to Ashawa Consults Ltd, EEMS Ltd, Environmental Accord and Bodley Company for their sponsorship.
